Candace:
Hello everyone. We had our first adventure on the public transportation system yesterday. We moved from our down-town hotel to something a little more remote. I asked our roommate where we could run some errands and she gave us some ideas, so we packed up and went to IKEA (we didn’t end up buying things there), with the intention of going to FHE with some members in the ward right after, knowing it would take a while to get there, but we had no idea how long. After our errands, we called our friends who we were going to meet, but after they didn’t answer, we decided that it was probably too late and we should just go home. So we headed back down the Brown line, and were one stop away from home, when Jeram called us back saying that it was not too late to come, so we headed back down the brown line, transferred to blue, and then red, travelled all the way to the end, ran for the bus, and just barely missed it. We didn’t realize that the bus was running on a holiday schedule, and the next one wouldn’t come for another hour. We stayed at the station (it wasn’t too bad. It was nice and cool there because we were near the mountains) until our friend Rocky came to get us because you need a special card to ride this bus. The bus took us up a windy road up the mountain for about 10-15 minutes. We stayed at Rocky’s for about an hour, and then did it all again. On the way home, our friend Linda called her brother and had him shuttle us from the red line to the brown, so it wouldn’t take as long. There’s a bus that runs from Red to Brown, but there’s no real map of the bus system…you just have to figure it out, and some buses have weird hours, but we have lots of time, and good friends to help us find the way. I’ve travelled using a metro before, but in France there was a lot more overlap between lines. If you need to change lines here…it’s a big ordeal because all of the lines run generally north and south except blue. It’s fun now to get lost and have adventures, but hopefully we figure things out soon.
